Seattle Seahawks Rounding Into Form At Exactly The Right Time

The Seattle Seahawks are a team that nobody in the NFC should long to see across from them on the sidelines when the NFL Playoffs get underway just over a month from now.

After a 23-17 win against the reeling Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, the Seahawks find themselves the No. 2 seed in the NFC with a record of 8-3.

The Seahawks have all the makings of a Super Bowl-winning team.

The Seahawks defense was on pace to have one of the worst defenses in NFL history due to their performance in the early part of the 2020 season. The Seahawks defense surrendered more than 500 yards in two of their first five games leading up to their bye week.

The Seahawks defense, while still giving up the most total yards per game, has experienced a renaissance of sorts in recent weeks. In the team’s last two games, against the Cardinals and Eagles, the Seahawks have given up 301 and 250 yards respectively.

The Seahawks pass rush has also come alive ever since the team acquired Defensive End Carlos Dunlap from the Cincinnati Bengals before the team’s week 9 game against the Buffalo Bills. The team has 20 sacks in their last four games.

The Seahawks’ offense is also really high-powered and led by MVP candidate Russell Wilson. Wilson is having a career year in 2020 and has kept defensive coordinators up all night with his high level of play.

The Seahawks have the fifth-most total yards per game at nearly 400 yards, and Wilson has the second-highest completion percentage, 70.7%, the second-most touchdown passes, 31, and the third-most passing yards on the season.

Second-year receiver DK Metcalf has 1,039 yards on the season, which is the most in the National Football League and Tyler Lockett has eight receiving touchdowns on the season.

Even though the Seahawks defense is playing much better, and the offense is one of the most talented in the entire league, Seattle’s success in the playoffs will hinge upon how well the team’s rushing attack fares during the last five weeks of the 2020 NFL season and then in the playoffs.

Seahawks Running Back Chris Carson, who missed the last month with a foot injury, returned against the Eagles on Monday and may hold the keys to bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to the Pacific Northwest.

The Seahawks made two straight Super Bowls, XLVIII and XLIX, and did so on the backs of a historically great defense and a strong ground game. This is a formula the team must look to recreate in the waning weeks of the 2020 season, but this time all the Seahawks need is for their defense to play average as the pressure ratchets up and the games become much more consequential.

The Seahawks look like the team to beat in the NFC, and no one should be surprised if Seattle finds themselves down in Tampa, Florida for Super Bowl LV.
