Previewing A Week Five Matchup Between The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys

The New York Giants (0-4) face a tall task on Sunday when they go on the road to face their NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys (1-3).

The Joe Judge era in New York has not gotten off to a smooth start as “Big Blue” has struggled in all three facets of the game during the first month of the 2020 NFL season. The offense of the Giants has been especially troubling, and the struggles on that side of the ball have only been magnified since running back Saqoun Barkley suffered a torn ACL in week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Second-year quarterback Daniel Jones has looked lost for long stretches thus far and is the signal-caller for one of the worst offenses in the National Football League. The Giants are tied with the New York Jets for the least amount of total yards through four weeks and are averaging a league-low 11.8 points-per-game.

The Giants seemingly hit rock bottom on the road last Sunday when the offense was only able to muster three field goals on the road. 17-9, in a losing effort against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Giants offense hopes to get on the right track this Sunday when they face off against the Dallas Cowboys defense, the worst in the league through four weeks. It is safe to say that it will be weakness against weakness when the Giants offense takes the field against the Cowboys defense.

The Cowboys defense has been a major cause for concern through the first four weeks of this season. Dallas has been forced to come from behind in all four of their games, and if it were not for an epic collapse by the Atlanta Falcons in week 2, “America’s Team” would be 0-4.

The Cowboys defense is giving up a league-worst 36.5 points-per-game, and the third-most total yards in the entire league at 430 yards per game. Only the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons have given up more yards per game than the Cowboys thus far.

Mike Nolan, the Cowboys defensive coordinator, has been much maligned through the first four games and will look for his unit to make some positive strides against the worst offense in all of football.

The Cowboys offense has been firing on all cylinders to begin the season, but it has not led to victories. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is averaging 422 yards per game this season. Far and away the highest of any quarterback in the league.

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been disappointing thus far in 2020 though, due in large part to the Cowboys trailing during every game this season.

The Giants defense will also have to contend with Amari Cooper, Ceedee Lamb, and Michael Gallup which will lead to a very long day for the Giants.

Even though the Giants defense has shown some promise in the team’s first four games, allowing the fifth-fewest yards per game, the high-powered Cowboys offense should be able to have their way against the defense of the “G-Men.”

Prediction: Cowboys: 38 Giants: 21

Even though the Cowboys defense is struggling, the Giants offense will not be able to take advantage. Their offense has shown very few signs of life in 2020. The Cowboys offense on the other hand should be able to impose their will on the Giants defense all game long. Prescott should have another 300+ yard passing game, and it would be truly surprising if the Giants lead for any extended period of time on Sunday.

The Giants will fall to the 0-5 on the season, and Giants fans will be left wondering once again if Jones truly is a franchise quarterback.
