Melancholy In Happy Valley

Updated: Nov 19, 2020

At least we are not Michigan.

This is the only silver lining any supporter of Penn State can find after what has been a disastrous beginning to the season.

The Nittany Lions find them selves at 0-4 through the first month of play in the Big 10 and have the worst record in the Big Ten East.

Penn State entered 2020 with lofty expectations and were ranked No. 8 in the AP Top 25 when they began their season on October 24.

Penn State Head Coach James Franklin experienced great success in “Happy Valley” as of late. The Nittany Lions finished in the AP Top 25 at season’s end each of the last four seasons (2016-2019).

After such a lackluster start Penn State may look much different when the 2021 college football season kicks off. Franklin has been linked to USC and South Carolina as possibly their next head coach.

South Carolina recently fired Head Will Muschamp and USC Head Coach Clay Helton seems to constantly find himself on the hot seat.

The final four games of Penn State’s season gets slightly easier, but after such an awful first four games, how much will the Nittany Lions have left in the tank.

Will the team be able to right the ship, or will the 2020 season continue to be one that anyone associated with Penn State would like to put in the rearview mirror as quickly as possible?

Penn State hosts Iowa, visits the “Big House” to take on the hapless Michigan Wolverines, heads to the “Garden State” to take on Rutgers, and then hosts Michigan State to close out their 2020 season.

Penn State still has time to salvage the 2020 season, but the season has certainly gotten off to an inauspicious start.
