FDU Women’s Basketball Team Loses 68-53 in Road Conference Tilt

January 25, 2020

The FDU women’s basketball team saw their two-game losing game come to a screeching halt when they went on the road to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers.

The Knights were defeated 68-53 on Saturday, and are now 7-11 on the year, and 4-3 in Northeast Conference play.

The Knights return to the court Monday, Jan. 27, when they go on the road to face off against Merrimack College.

The Knights struggled offensively against the Pioneers, as they were only able to shoot 35% from the field and 13% from deep.

FDU had no answer for Pioneers junior guard Adrianne Hagood as she scored 22 points, her third-highest point total this season.

Senior forward Lauren Francillon and sophomore guard Rachael Niles led the Knights with 17 and 16 points. respectively. The 16-point output was a career-high for Niles. Niles and Francillon were the only two Knights to score in double-figures for the Knights.

A layup by Niles to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead was the only time FDU would be ahead in the game.

Junior guard Jayla Davis scored 14 points and junior guard Olivia Daboney scored 11 points for the Pioneers.

Sacred Heart shot 43% from both the field and three-point range on Saturday.

The Knights were outscored in the first three quarters and were unable to build upon the team’s best conference start since 1993. FDU found themselves down 20 points heading into the fourth quarter, 51-31, and played their best quarter of the game when the result was no longer in doubt.

The Pioneers were outscored 20-15 in the fourth quarter of the game.

The loss puts the Knights in a tie for fourth in the conference standings. With more than half of the conference slate remaining, the Knights control their own destiny regarding how the story ends on their 2019-2020 season.
