Dak Prescott Signs One Of Most Lucrative Contracts In NFL History

The national emergency has finally come to an end.

After two years of drawn-out negotiations, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescot signed a four-year $160 million contract extension with the team.

Prescott's signing bonus is $66 million, the highest in NFL history, with a record $75 million due in year 1, according to reports. The first three years of the deal are said to average $42 million per year.

The fact that Prescott and the Cowboys were able to agree on a contract was nothing short of remarkable. The negotiations had been dragging on for years, and Prescott seemed destined for a second consecutive franchise tag.

Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury in week 5 against the New York Giants, but this huge question mark hanging over Prescott’s health for the upcoming season seemingly had no impact on the negotiation.

Prescott is being paid as a top NFL quarterback, but the truth is Prescott is at best a top 12-15 quarterback.

The Dallas Cowboys will rue the day they signed Prescott to such an inflated contract. Prescott has shown nothing over his five-year career that will illustrate he is a transformational enough player to overcome the deficiencies that go along with building a roster with a quarterback that is taking up such a large chunk of a team’s salary cap.

Recent history in the NFL shows Super Bowl winning teams do not have a quarterback with a salary as high as the one Prescott is set to make.

The only way this contract pays off is if the Dallas Cowboys win the Super Bowl in the next four years.

There is no chance of that happening. Prescott will now be faced with lifting a subpar supporting cast because of his new contract.

This contract will go down as a cautionary tale because a slightly above average quarterback is being paid like he is a surefire Hall of Famer.
