After Shocking Upset, New York Giants Have Finally Hit Their Stride

The New York Giants are one of the hottest teams in the NFL after winning their fourth game in a row thanks to a road win on Sunday against the Super Bowl hopeful Seattle Seahawks, 17-12.

The Giants started the 2020 season 1-7 and looked destined for another high pick in the NFL Draft, but something changed over the last month that has the Giants leading the NFC East in a turn of events that virtually no one saw coming.

While the Giants did start the season poorly, there were some signs that first-year Head Coach Joe Judge had his team trending in the right direction. “Big Blue” gave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all they could handle in week 8, in a game the Giants should have won, and this close loss may have been the catalyst behind the winning streak.

Of the Giants seven losses in 2020, five have been by eight points or less.

The fact that quarterback Daniel Jones has cut down on his turnovers over the last month and a revitalization of the defense by first-year Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham has served as jumping off points for a vastly improved Giants team. Close losses became close wins, and that is a testament to the Giants coaching staff.

Jones, even though he was unable to suit up against the Seahawks due to a hamstring injury he suffered in the Giants week 12 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals, has been much more careful with the football in recent weeks. Jones has not thrown an interception in his last three starts after throwing at least one interception in seven of his first eight starts of 2020.

The Giants defense stifled one of the league’s most high-powered offenses on Sunday in the Seattle Seahawks. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson passed for a pedestrian 263 yards and turned the ball over twice in the loss Sunday. The Giants defense has held opponents to 16.5 points-per-game during their four-game winning streak.

New York does have a tough closing stretch as they host the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns in week 14 and 15 before traveling to Baltimore to take on the suddenly reeling Ravens before they return home to close out the 2020 regular season against their NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants currently sit atop the NFC East at 5-7, and a 2-2 closing stretch is all the team would need to punch their ticket to the playoffs for the first time in four years.

Something cooking in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
